Post with 3 notes
This may be an odd way to start posting again, but with all the John Waters hype going around for his new book, I realize more everyday what a truly delightful person he is. I think I first fell in love with Mr. Waters, really, when I was about nine and my grandparents were staying with me while my parents were away for the week. They rented “Serial Mom” for us all to watch, I guess without really reading the back? We didn’t get very far, but the flustered suggestion that “maybe we switch to another movie” is a memory I hold dear.
Anyway, I was reading an interview today, and this quote pretty much summed up a lot for me:
“Be interested in other people’s behavior and try to figure out why they did it. That’s what’s so interesting to me, and it’s not quite so obvious, and everybody has horror stories, everybody has secrets, everybody has things they’ve done that they’re still trying to explain why they did. So if you can understand why other people did it, then maybe you’ll be better with yourself and you can be a happy neurotic, which is what I’m trying to be.”
Next time I’m in an icebreaker situation and someone asks me who I would most like to have a beer with, alive or dead, I have an answer.
